Gerry’s leap of faith for charity

A senior manager is hoping to raise £1,000 for the National Autistic Society when he makes a parachute jump out of an aeroplane on August 5.

Gerry Howard, a service delivery manager, will be flown to around 10,000 feet, where he will jump from the aircraft with an instructor strapped to his back. He will then plunge for several thousand feet at 120 miles an hour before the parachute opens up.

A terrified Gerry is not relishing the prospect of the jump but is doing it because a close relative of his was recently diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, which is related to autism.
